the turtle diaries: chasing volcanoes

We drove down to Washington State in order to see Mount St Helen's and Rainier's volcanoes.  The weather was overcast.

What we did see:

What we would have seen on a clearer day

What we would have seen in 1981

As for Mount Rainier, although we drove round the national park for several hours, hoping that the clouds would disperse, all we saw was forest and whiteout and rain.  We felt somewhat Scottish intermittently asking each other: do you think it's brightening up?
As for looking on BING images to see what we missed, that proved rather painful.  Perhaps we'll visit again and hope for better weather.

Despite all this, the trip was good.  More photos to follow.
