I had a vague recollection of declaring my determination not to go near another technical book on writing for some 'considerable time'. As indeed checking back confirms I did - April 4: polypockets. And I was doing really well, over eight weeks of abstinence, with no noticeable withdrawal symptoms, and then it happened.
The day began normally with no hint of what was to come. I'd emailed my writing mentor about techniques for transitions between chapters, more difficult to achieve when writing from multiple viewpoints. She'd replied with information which whetted my appetite for more, resulting in my ending up in a website which not only told me more about smooth connections between chapters or sections, but advertised... wait for it... a book. 'Make a Scene: Crafting a Powerful Story One Scene at a Time' and it seemed that this book had been written with me, and doubtless many others, in mind.

Within minutes I was on Amazon ordering it, and as any Amazon shoppers know, its selling point is the very reasonable prices of second hand ( I believe 'gently used' is the term currently in vogue) goods. My latest acquisition arrived yesterday and a quick whizz through would suggest this is exactly what I need at this stage. The challenge will be to find a balance between writing my novel and absorbing everything this book has to offer. In the past, my writing has suffered during such processes. Can I make it different this time?

Scenically yours
Jane
