If you want a frightening experience, forget scary movies and look no further than the photography exhibition of sea creatures in St Andrews Square, Edinburgh. Ignore the sharks, check out the photographs of Giant Frogfish and fang fish.
Frogfish are masters at camouflage, changing to match their surroundings. They lure their prey with a stalk between their eyes that copies the movements of its prey. Their mouths can open and expand to the width of their bodies to engulf their prey. (ref. http://www.whatsthatfish.com/fish/giant-frogfish/134)
According to Wikipedia, although fang fish have disproportionately large, fang-like teeth and an unattractive appearance, they are actually quite small and harmless to humans.
None of the above information makes me feel more kindly disposed towards either Giant Frogfish or fang fish.
Nor did I warm to the shots of octopi, which, according to Wikipedia, are sometimes eaten live, for the thrill of having the suction cups grab at the eater's mouth. Really...
There are also some quite cute creatures - relatively speaking - the deep seahorse partially concealed by coral.
