Today I met up with fellow student and friend, Babs, to exchange books, which ended up with lunch and a long chat. We discussed the meaning and purposes of blogs, literary theorists and the relevance or otherwise to our creative writing, how we met our respective partners, aware we were putting off going home, back to the desk to finish essays and adaptations. Was the spring weather sweeter, more appealing because we didn't feel free to bask in it or would the freshness and warmth have been as good if we were demob happy?
This leads me to a deeper question - are things always better if time is limited? We'll all die one day, each stage of life is finite, however much we protest and work at slowing things down, squeezing out every drop we can. Another episode of a DVD, an extra hour in bed, one more helping, an additional holiday, one more hallo, another goodbye..
Philosophically yours,
Jane
